Short History of Point Lookout Bowls Club

The Club was formed by people with a Vision, that was to provide an area in which to play bowls and after the game have somewhere to sit and enjoy each others companionship. The club started building its first green in 1971 on land which was mostly swamp, this had to be excavated and replaced with suitable material for growing grass. The original clubhouse was built by volunteers and was not much more than a lean-to, but the enthusiasm of its members made it feel like a castle. Their "Vision" became a reality.

The clubhouse has been extended several times over the years to accommodate the increasing number of visitors to the island, also a second bowling green was installed so the bowlers had all year round availability to play their sport.

In 1997 the club introduced the "Stradbroke 10,000" an annual bowls tournament which carries large prize money, this encouraged some of Australia's top bowlers to participate in this week long event. In the bowls world this tournament carries a very high ranking with the players and many of the originals are still participating today.

The club is situated on North Stradbroke Island, commonly known as "Straddie" by the locals. Point Lookout is on the ocean side of Straddie with sun, surf beaches, rock fishing and the Bowls Club.
